Why the Lowriser SL exists
The 6° backsweep sits in the comfort sweet spot for XC, while the 15 mm rise gives you room to dial position without weird cockpit compromises. With widths up to 800 mm, it stays calm and predictable when the trail gets technical or you’re deep into a long race.
Stiff where it matters
To keep wide bars from feeling vague, Schmolke extends the 31.8 mm clamping zone out to 280 mm before tapering to the 22.2 mm grip ends. The result is direct steering without that “soft” feeling under load.
Construction (how it stays light and trustworthy)
Hand-wound full-carbon construction with a layup refined over decades: up to 20 layers through the heavily stressed centre section, and as few as 4 layers in the grip area. That variable layup is how it achieves low weight without giving up stiffness and reliability.
SL vs TLO (choose the right one)
- Lowriser SL: reinforced for classic bar ends. Slightly heavier, best if bar ends are in the plan (or even a “maybe”).
- Lowriser TLO: no bar-end reinforcement, roughly 15 g lighter, ideal if you’ll never run bar ends.
Surface finish
No paint (to avoid unnecessary weight). The epoxy surface is more resistant than paint and comes in a modern matt look. SL risers feature the classic 1K weave with crossed (biaxial) fibres.
What’s the real weight?
The Lowriser SL is listed at 95–150 g depending on the width you choose. Wider bars use more material, so weight increases with width.
Can I run bar ends on the Lowriser SL?
Yes. The SL version is reinforced for classic bar ends and is designed for riders who want an extra hand position for long XC and marathon events.
Can I cut the Lowriser SL down to my preferred width?
Only minimally. Because of the bar-end reinforcement, the Lowriser SL can be shortened by up to 5 mm per side. If you plan significant cutting, choose the TLO version instead.
Why no paint?
Paint adds weight and chips. The unpainted epoxy surface is more resistant than paint and keeps the bar as light as possible.
What does 6° backsweep and 15 mm rise feel like?
6° backsweep is a widely used XC comfort angle that keeps wrists neutral without muting steering. 15 mm rise helps you fine-tune position and front-end feel without resorting to extreme spacers or odd stems.
