How much more does the TLO 50 cost?
The TLO 50 with DT Swiss 180 hubs costs approximately $2,275 more than the ARC 1100 DICUT 50. In return, you remove approximately 447g, move to a considerably wider rim platform and gain handmade German carbon construction with carbon spokes.
That additional investment is not paying for a different decal on another broadly similar wheelset. The specifications demonstrate a substantial performance upgrade.
What does the DT Swiss ARC 1100 DICUT 50 do well?
The ARC 1100 DICUT 50 still offers:
- Proven DT Swiss 180 hubs
- SINC ceramic bearings
- A hooked tubeless-ready rim
- Aerodynamic development with Swiss Side
- A lower purchase price
However, the 50mm model belongs to the previous ARC generation and has now been replaced within the current DT Swiss range by the ARC 1100 DICUT 55. Its 20mm internal rim and 1,472g claimed weight show how quickly premium wheel design has moved.
The verdict
The DT Swiss ARC 1100 DICUT 50 is cheaper, but the Schmolke TLO 50 is operating at a different performance level.
With DT Swiss 180 hubs, the TLO 50 is approximately 447g lighter while providing a 25mm internal width, a 32.5mm external profile and carbon spokes. Choose Extralite or NON PLUS hubs and the weight advantage grows to more than 500g.
