Best Wilier URTA Ultimate Upgrades: Wheels, Saddle & Cockpit
The new Wilier URTA Ultimate does not need rescuing. It needs upgrading with some restraint.
This is a World Cup-developed, 120mm full-suspension XC race bike with adjustable geometry, electronic suspension compatibility and a 1,700g claimed frame weight before the rear shock. The best upgrades are the ones that make it accelerate harder, feel sharper and fit its rider better without diluting what Wilier has built.
Wilier offers the URTA Ultimate with electronic drivetrains, modern 120mm suspension and a dropper post across the range. It is already a serious race build. That makes the upgrade order important: wheels first, saddle second, then decide whether a full custom cockpit conversion is worth it.

1. Schmolke TLO XC Race: the upgrade you will actually feel
The URTA Ultimate is offered with two very different stock wheel levels. Miche lists the flagship K1 RD at 1,345g and the K6 at 1,618g. The Schmolke TLO XC Race wheelset starts at a claimed 1,100g with Extralite HyperBoost3 hubs.
On an XC bike, that is not just a prettier number on the scales. Reducing mass at the wheels changes how quickly the bike responds every time you surge out of a corner, punch over a rise or re-accelerate after a technical section. It also makes line changes feel lighter and more immediate.
Schmolke uses front- and rear-specific rims: a 30.5mm internal front rim to support the tyre for steering grip, and a lighter 28mm internal rear rim to keep acceleration sharp. The low 22mm rim profile is built for control and precision rather than simply making the wheel brutally rigid.
Our call: the Schmolke upgrade is transformational from the K6 build. From the already excellent K1 RD, it is the choice for riders chasing every possible advantage in climbing, repeated acceleration and handling response.

2. Alpitude Navene: an XC saddle that belongs on this bike
The Alpitude Navene is not a road saddle being pushed into an MTB build. It was developed for XC and gravel racing, tested on European race courses and shaped to give the rider a stable platform when the surface gets rough.
- From 74g in 130mm, or 75g in 142mm, in 3K Twill
- 245mm short-fit geometry with room to move on technical terrain

Keeping the URTA Ultimate’s dropper post makes sense on modern XCO courses. Changing only the saddle removes weight high on the bike while retaining the descending control the 120mm platform was designed to deliver.
Fit note: Navene uses 7×9mm carbon rails and has a 95kg rider limit. Confirm that the fitted Reverb AXS, FOX Transfer SL or KS dropper has the correct oval-rail clamp hardware before installation.
3. Darimo cockpit: massive potential, but do it properly
Wilier fits every URTA Ultimate with its integrated carbon bar and stem, quoted at 285g. A Darimo MTB flat bar is around 98g at 740mm, while the Darimo IX2 stem is 66g at 100mm. On published benchmark weights, that combination can come in around 120g lighter than the Wilier cockpit.
That makes the Darimo option extremely tempting—but it is not a direct handlebar replacement. The URTA Ultimate has fully integrated cable routing, model-specific headset hardware and an aggressive Wilier cockpit shape. Bar width, stem length, stem angle, stack, cable routing and headset compatibility all need to be resolved as one system.
Do not buy this conversion by weight alone. Replacing the 760mm Wilier cockpit with a narrower or differently angled Darimo setup can change steering leverage, bar height and fit. It is a brilliant weight-weenie build when the dimensions work—not an automatic upgrade for every URTA Ultimate.

4. 76 Projects Enduro Mount: small upgrade, very sensible
The 76 Projects Enduro Mount is not going to make the URTA Ultimate faster. It will make its beautifully integrated cockpit cleaner and place a Garmin or Wahoo on the top tube behind the stem, where it is less exposed than it would be on an out-front mount.
It uses 3M VHB adhesive rather than adding another clamp to the bar. Choose the Garmin or Wahoo insert, then match Type A or Type B to the shape of the top tube. Type A suits flat or slightly curved profiles; Type B is intended for rounder, more heavily curved tubes.

What would we upgrade first?

We would leave the drivetrain and suspension alone until setup, tyre choice and pressures have been properly dialled. Wilier has already specified the URTA Ultimate around modern XCO racing. There is little value in replacing excellent components simply to create a longer shopping list.

Will Schmolke TLO XC Race wheels fit the URTA Ultimate?
The required Boost axle standards match: 15×110mm front and 12×148mm rear, with SRAM XD and Shimano Micro Spline freehub options. Choose the hub and rotor interface to match the build: Extralite HyperBoost3 uses 6-bolt rotors, while the DT Swiss 180 option uses Center Lock.
Is the Alpitude Navene suitable for XC racing?
Yes. Navene was developed specifically for XC and gravel racing. Choose the correct 130mm or 142mm width and confirm 7×9mm carbon-rail clamp compatibility with the fitted dropper post.
Can I fit a Darimo MTB handlebar to the URTA Ultimate?
Potentially, as part of a complete bar-and-stem conversion. The stock Wilier cockpit is integrated and the bike uses fully internal cable routing, so headset parts, cable routing, fit and the new stem configuration must all be checked before ordering.
Should I replace the dropper post to save more weight?
Not as a first move. The URTA Ultimate’s 120mm suspension and modern race geometry are designed for technical XCO courses, where a dropper can deliver more control and speed than a small static weight saving.
