Compare Schmolke Carbon Wheelsets
Schmolke does not make one carbon wheelset and rebadge it for different riders. The current range covers road, gravel and cross-country racing, with each model built around a clear performance priority.
The choice comes down to where you ride, how much weight matters and whether you want the direct response of conventional spokes or the distinctive damping and low weight of PI ROPE textile spokes. Here is how the eight Schmolke wheelsets currently available in Australia compare.
The quick answer
Road: SL 37 for value, TLO 37 for climbing and minimum weight, TLO 50 for the fastest all-round package.
Gravel: SL Gravel for accessible performance, TLO Gravel for a lighter race build, TLO Gravel PI ROPE for less weight and more damping.
XC: TLO XC Race for precise conventional-spoke performance, TLO XC PI ROPE for the lightest and most distinctive option.

Weights are Schmolke’s claimed wheelset figures and vary with hub configuration. Tape, valves and other fitted parts can also affect a real-world weighed result.
Road wheelsets
Schmolke SL 37: the smart entry into German-made performance
Claimed weight: 1,190g | Depth: 37mm | Internal width: 22.3mm
The SL 37 is the value choice, but 1,190g is still exceptionally light for a disc-brake road wheelset. Its low rotating mass improves acceleration and climbing, while the 37mm profile remains calm in crosswinds and easy to live with on everyday roads.
Choose it if: you want a major upgrade over a stock wheelset without paying TLO money.

Schmolke TLO 37: the pure climbing wheelset
Claimed weight: 895g with Extralite or NONPLUS hubs; 970g with DT Swiss 180 hubs | Depth: 37mm
The TLO 37 cuts close to 300g from the SL 37 configuration. You feel that through sharper acceleration, easier changes of pace and a bike that reacts immediately on steep gradients. The 37mm U-shaped rim still adds aerodynamic value, so this is not a climbing wheel that gives away speed everywhere else.
Choose it if: minimum weight, climbing response and confident handling matter more than deep-rim aerodynamics.

Claimed weight: 940g with Extralite or NONPLUS hubs; 1,025g with DT Swiss 180 hubs | Depth: 50mm | External width: 32.5mm
This is the wheelset that makes the usual aero-versus-weight compromise look outdated. The TLO 50 combines genuine 50mm aero depth with a claimed weight below many dedicated climbing wheels. Its broad U-shaped rim is designed around modern road tyres and to generate useful aerodynamic performance at real-world riding speeds—not only professional race speeds.
Choose it if: you want one top-tier road wheelset for fast bunch rides, racing, rolling courses, climbs and triathlon.

Gravel wheelsets
Schmolke SL Gravel: performance without the TLO price
Claimed weight: 1,380g | Depth: 35mm | Internal width: 25mm
The SL Gravel brings Schmolke’s German-made carbon construction to a more accessible price point. The wide, shallow rim supports modern gravel tyres and keeps the bike responsive without making it nervous on broken surfaces.
Choose it if: you want a strong, fast and comparatively affordable Schmolke gravel wheelset for racing, mixed surfaces and long days.

Claimed weight: 1,290g with DT Swiss 180 hubs | Depth: 35mm | Internal width: 25mm
The TLO Gravel removes weight without turning the wheelset into a fragile race-day novelty. The payoff is quicker acceleration after slow corners, less mass to carry over repeated rises and a more alert feel when the course changes direction.
Choose it if: you race gravel or want a premium build that feels noticeably lighter every time the pace changes.

Schmolke TLO Gravel PI ROPE: less weight, more damping
Claimed weight: 1,170g with NONPLUS hubs | Depth: 35mm | Internal width: 25mm
PI ROPE textile spokes reduce weight and add useful vibration damping without giving up the lateral support a fast gravel bike needs. At 1,170g, this is 120g lighter than the standard TLO Gravel configuration and offers a smoother feel across corrugations, chatter and long rough sectors. The spoke colours also make it possible to build something genuinely individual.
Choose it if: you want the lightest Schmolke gravel option, extra damping and a wheelset that does not look like everything else on the start line.

Schmolke TLO XC Race: light, direct and precise
Claimed weight: 1,100g with Extralite HyperBoost3 hubs; 1,160g with DT Swiss 180 Boost hubs | Internal width: 30.5mm front / 28mm rear
At 1,100g in its lightest configuration, the TLO XC Race takes a serious amount of rotating weight out of a performance mountain bike. That means faster responses on steep climbs, repeated accelerations and technical exits, while the front- and rear-specific rim widths balance front tyre support with rear-wheel precision.
Choose it if: you want elite XC weight with the familiar, direct feel of Sapim CX-Ray spokes.

Claimed weight: 900g with NONPLUS hubs | Internal width: 30.5mm front / 28mm rear
Nine hundred grams for a complete 29-inch Boost XC wheelset is properly extreme. The textile spokes help create a wheelset that accelerates brutally quickly while adding damping across roots, rocks and trail chatter. Compared with the standard TLO XC Race, the claimed saving is 200g before you touch any other part of the bike.
Choose it if: you are chasing the lightest, fastest and most distinctive Schmolke XC setup available.

TLO or SL? Conventional spokes or PI ROPE?
Choose SL
For strong weight savings, German-made carbon and the best value in the range.
Choose TLO
For the lowest weight, sharper response and a no-compromise premium build.
Choose PI ROPE
For additional weight saving, vibration damping and custom spoke colours.
There is no weak wheelset here. The wrong choice is simply paying for performance that does not match the way you ride. A flat, fast road build benefits more from the TLO 50 than the TLO 37. A rough gravel racer may value PI ROPE damping as much as its weight saving. An XC rider choosing between 1,100g and 900g is making a very different decision from someone buying an everyday road upgrade.
