Wilier Rave SLR ID2 Upgrades

Take more than 700g off your Rave SLR ID2 and make a fast gravel bike feel even faster

The right upgrades give you sharper acceleration, easier climbing, less vibration and a much more responsive gravel race bike. The biggest gains come from the wheels and saddle, not from replacing proprietary Wilier components that already work.

The Wilier Rave SLR ID2 starts at just over $7,000 and climbs to $17,000 for the Top of the Range version, but every build uses the same fast, aerodynamic gravel racing platform.

What changes dramatically across the range is the equipment attached to that frame.

That gives Rave SLR ID2 owners a genuine opportunity. Choose the right gravel bike upgrades and you can remove hundreds of grams, improve the way the bike accelerates and make it feel more direct every time you get out of the saddle.

On some Rave SLR ID2 builds, a Schmolke wheelset and Gelu saddle can potentially remove more than 700g without touching the frame, drivetrain or integrated cockpit.

1. Give the Rave SLR ID2 the lightweight wheels its frame deserves

The biggest Wilier Rave SLR ID2 upgrade is the wheelset.

A lighter wheelset gives you faster acceleration out of corners, less weight to carry uphill and a bike that responds more immediately when the pace changes.

You feel that benefit repeatedly during a gravel race. Every short climb, technical exit, attack and surge becomes easier to respond to.

For the Rave SLR ID2, the strongest upgrades are the Schmolke TLO Gravel and Schmolke TLO Gravel PiRope wheelsets.

Major weight saving, easier servicing

Schmolke TLO Gravel

Approx. 1290g

The TLO Gravel gives you a dramatically lighter and more responsive bike while retaining a premium conventional spoke system that is easier to service long term.

Best for: riders wanting a serious race upgrade with straightforward ownership.

25mm internal width

Lowest weight, smoother ride

Schmolke TLO Gravel PiRope

Approx. 1170g

PiRope gives you the lightest, smoothest and most distinctive Rave SLR ID2 build. The textile spokes help reduce high-frequency vibration while removing even more rotating weight.

Best for: riders chasing maximum weight reduction, comfort and individuality.

These comparisons use published wheelset weight benchmarks. Actual weights vary with hub selection, freehub, rim tape, valves and production tolerances.

Rave SLR ID2 Fusion owners: the 62mm Miche Kleos RD wheels give the Fusion build its road-focused aerodynamic character. Moving to Schmolke Gravel wheels will give you a lighter, more responsive and more versatile gravel setup, but it will also change the bike’s original road-oriented personality.

TLO Gravel or PiRope: which gives you the better upgrade?

Choose the Schmolke TLO Gravel if you want a huge weight saving, sharper acceleration and simpler long-term servicing.

Choose the Schmolke TLO Gravel PiRope if you want the lightest possible Rave SLR ID2, better vibration control and a wheelset that makes the build look completely individual. Available in 10 colours!

Both use a 25mm internal rim and work particularly well with fast gravel tyres around 40–45mm. The Rave SLR ID2 frame accepts wider tyres, but rim width, tyre volume, pressure and terrain still need to work together.

Get the freehub right before you order

The Rave SLR ID2 range includes SRAM, Shimano and Campagnolo drivetrains. That means the correct rear-wheel configuration depends on your exact build.

SRAM XPLR 13-speed generally requires XDR. Campagnolo Super Record X 13-speed uses N3W. Shimano compatibility depends on the cassette fitted.

Send us your complete drivetrain model and we will confirm the right Schmolke freehub before the wheelset is ordered.

2. Remove another 170g from the top of the bike

Once the wheels are sorted, the saddle gives you the next major opportunity to reduce weight.

Where the bike is fitted with the listed 226g Prologo Dimension AGX T4.0, a Gelu carbon saddle can potentially remove around 166–188g.

That gives you a lighter bike without changing the handling, drivetrain or aerodynamics Wilier designed into the frame.

Lightweight with broader appeal

Gelu A-Series

Approx. 52–60g

The A-Series gives you a short, modern shape, central pressure relief and a major weight saving without automatically choosing Gelu’s most minimal saddle.

Best for: riders wanting a balanced lightweight gravel race saddle.

Shop Gelu A-Series Saddles

Maximum weight saving

Gelu K-Series

From approx. 38g

The K-Series gives you one of the lightest saddle options available, with a compact and flat shape for riders prepared to prioritise minimum weight.

Best for: riders chasing every possible gram from a race-focused build.

Shop Gelu K-Series Saddles

Gelu saddles are handmade in Portugal and can be personalised with colours, names and detailing to suit Pixel Green, Neon Purple, Glitch Black or Byte Cream Rave SLR ID2 builds.

That gives you more than a lighter bike. It gives you a saddle that looks like it was designed as part of the complete build.

Check the saddle clamp before ordering. The Rave SLR ID2 uses Wilier’s dedicated aero seatpost. Gelu saddles use oval carbon rails, so the correct Wilier clamp hardware or rail yokes must be confirmed before fitting.

3. Carry a proper spare tube without filling your pockets

A Revoloop TPU tube gives you a compact, lightweight way home when tubeless sealant and plugs are not enough.

It takes up far less space than a conventional butyl tube, leaving more room in your jersey pocket, tool roll or on-bike storage.

For 32–40mm tyres:
Choose the 30g REVO.CC Ultra Gravel Tube.

4. Give the build a cleaner finish with 9.5g bottle cages

After the major performance upgrades, Alpitude Superleggero bottle cages help finish the bike properly.

Each cage weighs approximately 9.5g including titanium hardware, giving you a cleaner and more deliberate carbon build without adding unnecessary weight back onto the bike.

A pair suits the premium finish of the Rave SLR ID2 and lets you continue the lightweight theme beyond the obvious components.

Shop Alpitude Superleggero Bottle Cages

For rough gravel: secure bottle retention matters more than saving a few grams. Test the cages with the exact bottles you plan to use before racing.

5. Keep your tools on the bike without a bulky saddle bag

The 76 Projects Piggy keeps your tube, inflator, tyre lever and essential tools fixed securely beneath a bottle cage.

That gives you a cleaner bike, emptier jersey pockets and quick access to the equipment you need when something goes wrong.

At approximately 72g, it is not a weight-saving upgrade. It is a practical gravel racing upgrade designed to help you repair the bike and keep moving.

Do not waste money replacing the wrong parts

The Rave SLR ID2 uses several proprietary or highly integrated components. Some generic upgrades will not fit, while others may make the bike worse rather than better.

Wilier aero seatpost

The frame requires Wilier’s dedicated aero seatpost. A round Darimo or Schmolke post is not a compatible replacement.

Integrated F Bar cockpit

The F Bar routes cables internally and integrates with Wilier’s headset system. A generic gravel handlebar is not a simple swap.

1x drivetrain

The Rave SLR ID2 is designed around 1x drivetrains. Any gearing change must suit the frame clearance, cassette and derailleur capacity.

Brake pads

AMP pads may offer a lightweight performance upgrade, but the correct model depends on the exact SRAM, Shimano GRX or Campagnolo brake caliper fitted.

The upgrade order that gives you the biggest result

1. Schmolke wheels: the biggest improvement in acceleration, climbing and overall bike weight.

2. Gelu saddle: remove another 166–188g without changing the character of the bike.

3. Revoloop TPU tube: carry a compact spare that can get you home.

4. Alpitude cages: complete the lightweight build with a cleaner finish.

5. 76 Projects storage: carry the essentials without a bulky saddle bag.

The €4,400 Rave SLR ID2 gives you the largest potential weight saving because it starts with the heavier Miche Graff wheelset.

The higher-specification builds already include lighter and more aerodynamic equipment, but Schmolke wheels and a Gelu saddle can still give you a sharper, lighter and more individual race bike.

Wilier Rave SLR ID2 upgrade FAQs

What is the best Wilier Rave SLR ID2 upgrade?

A lighter wheelset gives you the biggest improvement. Schmolke TLO Gravel wheels can reduce rotating weight by approximately 235–445g compared with the listed Miche wheelsets. TLO Gravel PiRope wheels can increase the saving to approximately 355–565g.

What difference will lighter wheels make?

They give you faster acceleration, easier climbing and a more responsive bike when the pace changes. The difference is most noticeable during repeated surges, short climbs and technical exits.

Will Schmolke TLO Gravel wheels fit the Rave SLR ID2?

The wheel dimensions, hub spacing and Centre Lock braking format suit the Rave SLR ID2. The correct freehub must still be selected for the exact SRAM, Shimano or Campagnolo drivetrain.

Should I choose TLO Gravel or PiRope?

Choose standard TLO Gravel for a major weight saving and simpler long-term servicing. Choose PiRope for the lowest weight, better vibration control and coloured textile spokes. PiRope has a maximum system weight of 110kg.

Which Revoloop tube fits the Rave SLR ID2?

Use the REVO.CC Ultra with tyres from 32–40mm. For tyres from 42–60mm, including many 45mm and 50mm gravel setups, the 29-inch REVO.MTB Ultra can work.

Can I fit a Darimo seatpost?

No. The Rave SLR ID2 requires its dedicated Wilier aero seatpost, so conventional round or differently shaped aero posts are not compatible.

Can I fit a Gelu carbon saddle?

Potentially, but the Wilier seatpost clamp must support oval carbon rails. Confirm the correct clamp hardware before ordering. Saddle shape and fit must also suit the rider.
